EV Towing Charger Map — Privacy Policy

Olifin Solutions Limited · Last updated: 13/07/2026

1. Who we are

EV Towing Charger Map (the "app") is provided by Olifin Solutions Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12203129, registered office 11 Odette Court, Gilstead, Bingley, West Yorkshire, England, BD16 3QN, ). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Contact: privacy@olifinsolutions.com.

2. What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data the app processes, why, who it is shared with, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

3. Data we collect and why

DataWhat it includesWhy we process it (lawful basis)
Account data Email address and password (password held only by our authentication provider, AWS Cognito, in hashed form). To create and secure your account and sign you in (performance of a contract).
Towing rig profile Car make/model, charge-port side, trailer/caravan type and dimensions, estimated towing range figures. To personalise route plans and towing-suitability features (performance of a contract).
Navigation preferences Charging and routing preferences (state-of-charge settings, stop strategy, amenity preferences, etc.). To plan routes to your preferences (performance of a contract).
Reviews you submit Towing-suitability classification, ratings, comments, amenity information and the charger's location; stored against your account identifier. To operate the community review service that other users rely on (performance of a contract; legitimate interest in maintaining a useful, accountable dataset).
Review photos Photos you choose to take or attach when reviewing a charging site (for example the entrance or approach). Uploaded to our storage (AWS, London) and served publicly via a content delivery network alongside the review. Take care not to include people, number plates or other personal information in photos. To illustrate community reviews for other users (performance of a contract; you choose whether to attach a photo). Photos can be reported in-app and are removed if they breach our guidelines.
Location data Your device's GPS position, used to centre the map, find nearby chargers and as the starting point of route plans. Route origins/destinations/waypoints you enter. To provide the map and route planning you request (performance of a contract). Your continuous position is not stored on our servers; coordinates are processed to answer each request.
Settings stored on your device Map filter selections and cached copies of your profile/preferences, stored locally on your device only. So the app remembers your choices between sessions (legitimate interest).
Advertising data Your device's advertising identifier (Apple IDFA / Google Advertising ID), IP address, coarse device information and ad-interaction data (which ads were shown, viewed or tapped), collected by the Google AdMob SDK when ads are served. To show the advertising that funds the free app (legitimate interest for non-personalised, contextual ads; consent for personalised ads — see section 5).

We do not use your account, towing profile, location history or reviews for advertising, and we do not sell personal data.

4. Third parties that process data for or alongside us

ServiceWhat they receivePurpose
Amazon Web Services (eu-west-2, London) All account, profile, preference and review data. Hosting, authentication (Cognito) and data storage (our backend).
Open Charge Map Coordinates of the map area or route section being searched. Finding charging locations.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim The place names or postcodes you type into destination/start/via search. Converting place names to map locations.
Google Places The text you type into the "Rate EV location" search, your approximate map position (to bias results) and your IP address, per Google's own privacy policy. Finding the charging site you want to review.
Routing engine (OSRM; optionally OpenRouteService) The origin, destination and via coordinates of a route you request (which may include your current position), and vehicle height where configured. Calculating the drivable route.
Google Maps Standard map-tile requests from your device (IP address, viewport), per Google's own privacy policy. Displaying the map.
Google AdMob Advertising identifier, IP address, device information and ad-interaction data (see section 3). Google acts as an independent controller of this data under Google's privacy policy. Serving in-app advertising (see section 5).

Searches and routing requests are sent without your name or account identity, but coordinates and IP addresses can be personal data. Requests to Open Charge Map, OpenStreetMap services and Google may be processed outside the UK/EEA; these transfers rely on those providers' published safeguards. Our own data storage remains in the AWS London region.

5. Advertising

The app may show advertising served by Google AdMob to fund the free service. The current version does not yet show ads; this section applies from the version in which advertising is introduced, and the app will ask for any required consent at that point.

Personalised ads (consent). Where the law requires it (including the UK and EEA), we ask for your consent before showing personalised ads. If you consent, Google may use your device's advertising identifier and its own data about your interests to select ads. On iOS, personalised ads also require your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can withdraw or change your choice at any time from the ad-consent option in the app or in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Tracking; Android: Settings → Google → Ads), and withdrawing consent does not affect your use of the app.

Non-personalised ads. If you do not consent, you will see contextual (non-personalised) ads instead. These still involve Google receiving your IP address and basic device information to deliver the ad and to prevent fraud.

Details of how Google uses this data are at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. We do not share your account data, towing profile, precise location history or reviews with advertisers.

6. Retention

Account, profile, preference and review data are kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the app's About screen (About → Delete account); this deletes your account, towing profile and preferences immediately. Reviews are retained in anonymised form (disassociated from your account) so the community dataset others rely on stays intact, or deleted entirely on request. Review photos follow the same rule as the review they belong to (retained anonymised, or deleted on request or when reported and upheld). Locally stored settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Advertising data is retained by Google under its own published retention periods.

7. Security

Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Backend access is restricted by authenticated, per-user authorisation — the API only ever returns your own profile, preferences and account data. Passwords are handled solely by AWS Cognito and are never visible to us.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (including consent to personalised advertising — see section 5). You can erase your account data yourself via About → Delete account in the app. To exercise any other right, contact privacy@olifinsolutions.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

9. Children

The app is intended for drivers and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect children's data.

10. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here and update the date above. Material changes will be flagged in the app.
